Water Damage

Water damage reaks havoc on interiors. It causes immediate damage by destroying property like furniture, floors, and carpets, but can also have effects later on. If not cleaned correctly, water can cause mold and mildew! Whether you have a leaky roof, a cracked foundation, a flooded basement, or a backed up drain, call the experts at A & A refinishing for water damage.

Water Mitigation to Prevent Damaged Interiors

Water mitigation is the process of reducing or preventing the amount of water damage that happens after a flood or a permeating leak. Water mitigation is needed after plumbing failures or when storms cause water to rush into your home. Soaked rugs, damaged walls, warped flooring and ruined furniture are only the beginning if mitigation is not engaged quickly. Never try to clean up water with your home vacuum as you may electrocute yourself. Let the A & A Refinishing team do the work for you!

Water Damage Tips

When your interiors are damaged by water, it's overwhelming. You want to save your belongings and get rid of the mess as soon as possible. However, some things can actually do more damage. Keep these tips in mind to keep the situation under control until the A & A professionals arrive!

1. Remove excess water with mops and paper towels.

Allowing water to sit will increase the chances of mold and mildew. It can also cause structural damage to floors, ceilings, and furniture. Mops and paper towels or rags are your friends! Use them to get as much water out of the area as possible. If you have friends or family to help you, create an assembly line and get the water out even faster! Each person can have their own clean up task or you can create a line to pass buckets of water.

2. Remove as many items from the area as possible

Any items that are easy to move should be relocated to a different room. Lamps, small tables, decor, or anything else you can easily carry. However, don't hurt yourself in the process. As much as you love your couch, don't move it if you are unable. It may be a pain to go shopping for a new one, but certainly not as painful as damaging your back!

3. Dehumidifers and fans can help!

Dehumidifiers pull moisture from the air, which helps to reduce mold and mildew accumulation. Fans will also help dry out carpets, furniture, and any other porous materials. Caution: DO NOT use fans or dehumidifiers if they have been subjected to water damage. You can electrocute yourself! Do not place them too close to the water either. This could also lead to electrocution.

4. Remove colored items to prevent stains

Anything that is treated with dyes or ink should be removed before they can damage floors. Rugs, books, magazines, even tie-dyed clothing should be removed! The water can soak up the colors and transfer them to your carpet or furniture!

5. DO NOT use any electrical appliance near the water!

If water has reached any electrical appliances, DO NOT use them! It's impossible to tell how much water reached the electrical components and the last thing you need on top of a flood is a house fire! And speaking of electrical appliances, DO NOT use a vacuum to suck up water! Putting water into an electrical device is a recipe for electrocution!

6. When in doubt, get the heck out!

If your ceiling or floor is sagging, get out of the room! The ceiling could collapse on you or you could burst through the floor. Stay out of the room until the A & A Refinishing team arrives!

A & A Refinishing is licensed, insured, and bonded for restoration jobs caused by water damage. Don't trust your interiors to anyone else!

Customer Testimonial

"I went over to my property to look at the tub yesterday along with the property manager, Mary Givens.  Both of us were incredibly impressed with the tub itself and the beautiful tile work that went along with the installation.  My tenant is also very happy with the tub which is another bonus.  The pictures did not do it justice.
Thank you for doing such beautiful work at such a fair price.  I consider myself very lucky to have found your company to take care of this and will definitely use your services in the future."
